Camp Life: The Blog! – Week 2 Recap

Week 2 – Wrapping Up Session 1 with a Splash!
What a week! As we wrapped up Session 1 of YMCA Summer Day Camp, campers across our branches soaked up every moment of fun, friendship, and adventure. From thrilling trips and competitive sports to hands-on art projects and in-house entertainment, Week 2 was packed with excitement!
Huntington YMCA
Our Sports Campers teed up for a great time at Top Golf—swinging for the fences, cheering on their friends, and spending the day building confidence and team spirit. But the fun didn’t stop there! Campers dove into creative arts, played intense rounds of foosball, cooled off in the pool, and unleashed their imaginations during arts and crafts.
On the playground or in the classroom, there was never a dull moment! Pre-Teens and Teens took their adventures off-site with two awesome trips—Dave & Buster’s for arcade action and Plaster Kraze for some pottery painting for a creative twist on summer fun.
YMCA at Glen Cove
It was all about games, giggles, and getting moving in Glen Cove! Campers were put to the test by the Game Show Guy, who challenged their knowledge with trivia from TV, music, and more—and got everyone racing in energetic team games.
To beat the heat, our younger campers splashed through swim lessons and cooled off during free swim. From soccer and basketball to our brand-new rock wall, the action never slowed down!
Meanwhile, our Teens and Pre-Teens went exploring—with exciting trips to the Bellmore Playhouse too see a local community theater show and into Manhattan to see their favorite celebrities up close at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.
Patchogue Family YMCA
It was a colorful and creative week at Patchogue! Our Kiddie Campers kicked off Monday with a fun STEM activity, exploring science and creativity through hands-on play. Banner Day gave campers a chance to express themselves as they designed and decorated group banners—each one a unique reflection of teamwork and personality.
The Jump Bunch brought high energy and movement to camp, helping our little ones burn off some steam while building agility and coordination. Theme days brought even more joy and silliness—Wacky Sock Day and Hat Day filled camp with colorful socks and cool caps!
Our Pre-Teen & Teen campers leapt into fun with a trip to Farmingdale FGA Gymnastics, where they practiced balance, flips, and fun in a new and exciting environment.
YMCA East Hampton RECenter
This week was packed with excitement in East Hampton! Campers got creative during face painting time—transforming into everything from colorful rainbows to creepy spiders and even Spiderman! They showed off their artistic sides and looked amazing doing it.
Campers bounced around the gym with inflatables, played larger-than-life games with giant bowling pins, and cooled off on the slip and slide with friends. Our playground was buzzing with laughter and energy as campers made the most of outdoor time.
A highlight for our Kiddie Camp was the Petting Zoo that visited campus! Campers met friendly animals and learned more about their furry visitors up close. Meanwhile, Pre-Teens and Teens soaked up the sun with awesome trips to Adventureland for rides and thrills and Atlantic Beach, where they played volleyball and caught some rays.
Great South Bay YMCA
These campers brought the summer spirit all week long! Sunshine, friendship, and nonstop play filled our days as campers built lifelong memories and had a blast doing it. From intense games of Gaga Ball and basketball to splashing in the pool and racing down the waterslide, outdoor fun was in full swing!
Campers also found joy in quieter, creative moments—scrapbooking, cooking, and mindfulness with Think Wellness Yoga offered the perfect balance to their action-packed schedules. In the kitchen, they whipped up sweet treats, and during yoga, they practiced being present and connected with themselves and the world around them.
Superhero Day brought out the best in everyone as campers dressed the part and showed real heroism by spreading kindness and lending helping hands to their camp community.
Meanwhile, our Pre-Teens and Teens escaped into a world of adventure at the movies. Whether it was dinosaurs, dragons, or drag races, the fun was as big as the screen!
As Session 1 comes to a close, we’re so proud of everything our campers have experienced and achieved—from building new friendships to discovering new interests. The summer fun is just getting started, and we can’t wait for more amazing moments in Session 2!
