Camp Life: The Blog! – Week 6 Recap

Color, competition, creativity—Week 6 had it all!
Welcome back to Camp Life: The Blog! — your weekly roundup of YMCA Summer Day Camp fun across Long Island! Week 6 and the end of Session 3 were filled with unforgettable field trips, high-energy adventures, creative expression, and plenty of summertime smiles. From epic camp battles to tie-dye masterpieces, our campers made the most of every sunny moment. Let’s dive into some of the highlights across our branches!
YMCA at Glen Cove
Campers at Glen Cove soaked up the sun this week and brought their A-game to one of our favorite annual traditions—Color Wars! From soccer and kickball to high-energy group relays, campers gave it their all in the spirit of friendly competition. We capped off the week with our vibrant and much-anticipated Color Run, where everyone sprinted, laughed, and got splashed with color!
Our Teen and Pre-Teen groups went on two awesome trips—first to Morgan Park for volleyball, soccer, and a scenic picnic, and then to Q-Zar for laser tag and arcade games. A perfect balance of chill vibes and action-packed fun!
Huntington YMCA
Rep Your Color Day was a total hit at Huntington! Campers showed up dressed in their boldest reds, greens, yellows, and blues, ready to take on a day packed with adventure. From conquering the Grit Ninja obstacle course, bouncing through JumpTown, and flipping in Gymnastics, the energy was sky-high.
Our Pre-Teens and Teens explored the Long Island Aquarium, while Kiddie campers got messy and creative with a visit from the Slime Truck!
Throughout the week, campers honed their swim skills, scaled the rock wall and ropes course, tie-dyed colorful creations, played on the playground, and enjoyed a musical performance by Steve, who brought instruments for campers to show off their musical talents.
Great South Bay YMCA
What a joyful, jam-packed week at Great South Bay! Kiddie and Youth campers celebrated Silly Sock Day and Color Wars, filling camp with laughter, creativity, and vibrant energy. They danced, sang, and created art meant to spread joy.
One of the week’s biggest highlights was a Magic Show that left campers amazed with awesome tricks and illusions!
Meanwhile, Teen Camp made history at the first-ever Camp Clash Championship, where they faced off against other branches in relay races, tug-of-war, and other exciting field games. After a full day of teamwork, cheering, and fierce (but friendly) competition, they brought home the trophy! Congrats to our Teen Campers, the First Annual Camp Clash Champions! You made us proud! Also, this week, our campers soared high with the high ropes course at Jones Beach!
Patchogue Family YMCA
It was a Color Wars takeover in Patchogue this week! Kiddie Campers celebrated with Purple Day, Yellow Day, and Wear Your Favorite Color Day, spreading color and cheer all around camp.
Our Pre-Teens and Teens kept the energy going with a trip to the bowling alley, plus an exciting appearance at Glen Cove’s Battle of the Camps, where they joined forces with campers from across Long Island for fun group challenges. Whether they were cheering or competing, our campers showed up with enthusiasm, heart, and true Y spirit!
A Birthday Bash for Y Guy! 🎉
This week, campers across all our branches came together to celebrate one of our most beloved camp friends — Y Guy! From cupcakes to sing-alongs, party hats to photo ops, everyone got in the birthday spirit. Campers shared birthday wishes, posed for silly pictures, and of course, shouted a big, loud “Happy Birthday, Y Guy!” It was the perfect way to add even more joy and togetherness to an already exciting week.
From camp classics to new adventures, Week 6 brought out the best in every camper. As we close out Session 3, we’re grateful for the memories made, the friendships formed, and the joy that continues to grow each week.
